FAQ -
frequently asked questions
How much does a driver's license cost and how quickly can you get one?
The cost and duration of a driver’s license depends on various factors. Some of them we can influence, some others you can.
Then there are other factors that neither we nor you can influence, as these are dependent on external factors.
a.) What can we influence as a driving school?
We can influence the quantity of your driving lessons, so we would like to offer you as many driving lessons as possible, e.g. with an intensive course.
However, it should be noted that an intensive course is not suitable for everyone. We should also analyze this together in a detailed discussion.
b.) What can you influence?
In order to keep the duration of your driving license as short as possible, you can really prioritize your driving license for this time. This sometimes has the advantage of reducing the costs to a certain extent.
Unfortunately, everyone’s talent is different and cannot be influenced, but it can be compensated for with patience and a little effort. However, answering this question with a specific amount is only possible if you were to lie.
How many compulsory driving lessons are there?
The law prescribes a certain number of “special training trips” for each driving license category. These are better known as “special trips”.
For category B (car) and A (motorcycle), this is a total of 12 driving lessons. For category A, this can be reduced to a total of 6 driving lessons under certain conditions. However, this is not enough, as you are only allowed to take special driving lessons at the end of your training, so a basic foundation of practice driving lessons is required.
The number of practice driving lessons each person must take is not specified. What is prescribed, however, is that the learner driver must be able to pass the practical test. The driving instructor must make sure of this (§6 FahrschAusbO) and also bears full responsibility.
However, because we do a short review of the driving lesson after each one, you will always know exactly where you stand!
When can I start my driving lessons?
The legislator also provides for a specific approach here. The theoretical knowledge should be linked and interlinked with the practical part. This means that at least the theoretical lessons should be completed, or at least a large part of the theoretical lessons, so that you can put what you have already learned into practice.
You shouldn’t be so uptight about this either, but the best driving lesson is not much use if you haven’t acquired any (prior) knowledge.
How often do I have to attend theoretical lessons or can I also attend them online?
The statutory scope of theoretical training is also specified. In principle, every first-time driver, i.e. someone who has never held a driver’s license before, must attend the basic course 12 times.
Someone who acquires another driving license, i.e. extends to another license, only needs to take the basic course 6 times. Then there are the class-specific lessons, the so-called additional material, which can consist of 2-18 topics.
Are driving instructors patient?
That is a very legitimate question! Let me put it this way; a driving instructor who has no patience has missed the job! We can assure you that all our driving instructors have the necessary patience.
However, if you are not satisfied with your driving instructor, we will work with you to find a suitable solution; and we will certainly find a solution!
Will my non-EU driver's license be recognized in Germany - and what do I have to do as a transcriber?
No, not automatically.
Annex 11 of the Driving Licence Ordinance (FeV) regulates the countries from which driver’s licenses are recognized. Depending on the country of origin, a theoretical, practical or both tests may be required in Germany.
The following evidence and steps are required as a transcriber:
Participation in a first aid course (9 units of 45 minutes each)
Valid eye test (not older than 2 years)
Officially recognized translation of the foreign driving license
Personal application at the responsible road traffic office
Waiver of the old non-EU driving license when issuing a German driving license
Do I have to complete a probationary period as a rewriter?
Only if your driver’s license is less than two years old.
If you have held a non-EU driving license for more than two years, the probationary period does not apply.
Otherwise, the previous driving license period is partially credited to the probationary period.
What language skills do I need for the driving test?
The theoretical test may be taken in 11 specified foreign languages.
The current list of available languages can be found in Annex 11 of the Driving License Ordinance (FeV).
The practical test is held exclusively in German. A language level of at least A2 is required to pass, as safety-related instructions must be understood correctly.
